1. Initial (free of charge) consultation, usually on Teams, to discuss your requirements and how I would fulfil them​

2. If you like my ideas and are interested in proceeding, I will ask you to provide all available collateral relevant to the project. Possibilities include:

   1. Website links

   2. Magazine articles

   3. Data sheets and manuals

   4. Brochures and flyers

   5. Press releases

   6. White papers

   7. Meeting notes, transcripts, and recordings

   8. PowerPoint presentations

   9. Any other information you’d like to supply​

3. I will also ask you to advise on which documents (or parts of a document) are the most important or relevant.​

4. After reviewing this information, I will respond with a proposal describing my project plan, and estimated costs and timescales based on my understanding of the requirements so far.​

5. If you accept this proposal, the next step is to set up an on site or Teams Briefing Meeting where I could meet your Engineering representative who could explain the technology and innovation behind the product. I could also meet your Marketing/Sales/Product Management representative who would describe the messaging and objectives for the target content.​​

6. Additionally, the meeting would help me refine my understanding of your requirements, by discussing:

   1. Background information about your organisation and marketplace, and the circumstances that led to the product’s development.

   2. Your customers’ problems that your product solves

   3. Why it does so better than its competition

   4. When and where will the product be released?

   5. Personas of target audience – engineers, commercial, both, other?

   6. Type of article – blog post, technical article, white paper, other?

   7. Required keywords

   8. Size/length of content in words  

7. Tone of voice – Formal/academic, informal/blog post, other?

8. On what sources should the target content be based? (Collateral provided, transcript of this meeting, etc.)

9. What does success look like? (Website traffic target, placement into target journals….)​

10. After the meeting, I go to work on the first draft, which I circulate to the project’s stakeholders for comments and feedback. Alternatively, I can communicate through a single point of contact, if you prefer.​

11. I use the feedback to revise the first draft and resubmit for review. I allow for two such iterations, as in my experience this is sufficient to reach a final, approved document, unless you want to make some changes to the original brief.
